6.2.16

Thanks Everyone, it was great to have you.

You will be recieve confirmation of your booked table/space once you have sent a screenshot of your payment.
When you send a screenshot, could you please ensure it captures that date (and, if possible, the time.
This helps us track the payment in Plunket's general accounts, which are ... maaaaaassssive.

Inside tables are allocated to
If you are an inside table, please arrive by 8am to start setting up.
If you are bringing a clothes rack, or very large items to sell (eg. buggies),  please let me know so I can put you where there is sufficient space.
Inside supplied table sizes are 1.8m x 740cm.

Outside tables are allocated to:
If you are an outside table, please arrive by 8.30am to start setting up (or earlier if you wish), but 8 people/cars will be unloading from 8am so that might take a while.
If you are an outside table, your fee will be collected on the day.
Outdoor supplied tables sizes are 1.8m x 760cm.
SO FAR, the weather is looking GREAT accordingly to metservice.co.nz

The hall has a small kitchen with hot water, so you can make yourself a hot drink before or during the sale. Instant coffee/tea, sugar and milk is supplied by Plunket. Plunket will have a cake stall so you can purchase a nibble without having to leave. There are toilets at the Centre as well. If folk need an ATM, there is one at the end of the drive (couldn't be closer, really).

You can use the carpark to unload (and later, reload) your cars. It only has 4 parks (hopefully the neighbours aren't parked in any of them). So, between 8-9 you can doublepark behind other cars if needed, but be alert to moving your car if needed.  Once unloaded, PLEASE SHIFT YOUR CAR as soon as you are done to allow another person to use the park, and then during the sale we would like the carparks left available for the multitudes we hope coming to the sale. A great place to park is Clyde St and then walk down the walkway to the shops. If you need someone to look after your table while you do this, just let me (Nicci) know.  If you have mobility issues and need to use a mobility carpark, please let me know. Otherwise, we'd really appreciate you sharing the space.

Please stay to the end of the sale, or close to 12 as it's a bit disheartening for the other stall holders if people start packing up and gives buyers the impression the sale is over, when it's still on.

We need to be clear of the hall by 1pm. Please take your rubbish with you.

The most important thing you can do to get your items sold is TELL people about the sale and that you're part of it.  The more people come, the more you will sell.

Tips for Sellers

Price realistically - people are looking for bargains. You make your money by selling to lot of things at a low price, not a few things at a high price. Want to see what similar stuff is selling for? Try TradeMe (search "expired listing" to see sold prices)  or to find out the RRP of a new item on sale try Salefinder here.

Equip yourself to last the distance. Sunblock/hat (if outside), charged cellphone, money belt, warm top, comfy shoes, snacks, water bottle, lip balm. Fold-up stool or chair.  Plastic bags for buyers.

Set up early - as much as you can the night before if you are selling from home. It is quite stressful to try and set up a sale and serve people at the same time!  If you don't want people wandering in before your sale starts, put a couple of chairs and a pole (broom etc) between them with a sign 'No entry/sales before 9am). Recruit someone to be 'watchdog', if needed.

Money, money  ... get to the bank the day before for a gold/silver coin float of $30.  Work out where the nearest ATM is if anyone wants to get more cash.

Recruit a friend who will visit and bring coffee part-way through, or look after your table while you take a break, or visit nearby sales.

Make it look good!!!
Hang it! If you have clothes, display them on a clothes rack (or a portable clothes horse).
- Bag it! Ziplock bags (the type that are at the pic & mix at the supermarket). Great for bagging some small things together (eg 5 small plastic toys) and selling them as one lot.

-  Buckets! Don't price the little stuff - do buckets of $1, $2, $3 items or make an offer?
- Use a table  -people are less likely to go through boxes and look at things on the ground.

Got something great? Want to get a great price for it? Do a silent auction - highest bidder wins.
Or do a  kids' raffle - sell tickets (but make sure you comply with the DIA rules).

Bulk sell clothes. Second-hand clothes rarely sell well and take a lot of space to display well and time to price. Consider selling them in lots - either pre-madeup or as the buyer chooses, eg any 5 items for $5.

Show it off! Stuff under the table or behind it on the wall never gets noticed. Point it out regularly to browsers. or move it up as you get space.  Don't overcrowd your table (less is more).

Advertise! Tell the neighbours and see if they want to do a sale on the same day - two sales makes for a lot more people stopping to see what's on.  Put a sign out on FRIDAY to say there will be a garage sale at your address tomorrow. Use your Facebook page, Facebook groups (if allowed), Garage Sale Wellingon (on Facebook).

Internet: Advertise at www.garage-sales.co.nz or www.facebook.com/ibgarage sales.

Create an atmosphere - music playing, bunting, sausages sizzling, homemade lemonade by Junior -  say hi to people and ask where they're from - anything that makes people want to linger longer will mean they have more time to spot a bargain and buy more.

Involve the whole family  - get the kids to have a clear out, give their friends flyers at school,  to design signs, to chalk the pavement, to make & serve homemade lemonade and sell their toys and so on.  Kids love being garage salers!

TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS - and ask them to tell theirs - the more people, the more stuff you will sell! Don't forget your Facebook page. Add a sign-off at the end of each email you send. Tell your kindy/creche/playgroup. The bigger the buzz, the more $$ you make :)

Tip:  When things are slowing down (the first hour is always the busiest) whip out your phone and start photographing anything you want to list on TradeMe later. You can save a listing to publish when you get home.
